Wyoming PBS Covers Legislative Session with Award-winning Weekly Program
February 8, 2010 - The Wyoming State Legislature is the subject of lively discussion, news briefs, and commentary, as award-winning “Capitol Outlook” returns to Wyoming PBS Fridays at 8 p.m. beginning February 12.
Every week during the 2010 legislative session, “Capitol Outlook” host Geoff O’Gara reports on the action at the Capitol and convenes a panel of legislators to discuss their work on a range of issues affecting Wyoming.
“Capitol Outlook” includes a news summary at the beginning, accompanied by a feature that tackles one issue in depth, often showing how legislation affects communities and people outside Cheyenne. The program also brings back a popular feature from the past two years, dropping in at coffee shops in various towns to see what’s on the minds of the java philosophers.
Award winning: This year at the annual National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) awards ceremony, “Capitol Outlook” was presented with an award for best content production in the small market News & Public Affairs category.
“While maintaining a respectful posture and inclusive interview technique, the host masterfully illuminated the obvious and less obvious perspectives of each issue,” stated one of the NETA judges.
“It’s too easy to say that the public isn’t interested in the inner working of state government,” said “O’Gara. “It’s our job, as journalists, to make it interesting.”
