The Savvy Investor - Protecting Against Scams
About the Program
Wyoming PBS Program Looks at Investment Fraud in Wyoming
Although many legitimate investment opportunities are abundant in Wyoming, unscrupulous people and con artists are looking for unlawful methods to dupe the unaware out of their investment dollars.
Fraud prevention experts join Wyoming Perspective's newest program host Margaret Benson to discuss investment fraud in Wyoming in "Wyoming Perspectives: The Savvy Investor - Protecting Against Scams" which airs Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
"As long as people have money, other people will be looking for unlawful methods to get it," said Benson. "Unfortunately, Wyoming citizens lose thousands of dollars to investment fraud. The victims and the 'scammers' have many faces - young, old, rich, poor, educated and less educated."
Program guests include three officials from the Wyoming Secretary of State office including Max Maxfiled, Secretary of State; Tom Cowan, Director of Administrative Support; and Karen Wheeler, Director of Compliance. Rita Inoway, AARP Wyoming Director also joins the panel. Guests will explore how viewers can identify a scam and avoid becoming involved in investment fraud.
Information will be provided on how to determine if an investment opportunity is legitimate or suspicious as well as guidelines to help make viewers become more "savvy" investors and avoid the pitfalls created by becoming involved with scams and fraudulent investment activities.
During the program, viewers may call in to 800-495-9788 and share their experiences with investment fraud or ask the panel of experts questions regarding this important topic.
